Ingredients
  

For the Crust and Topping
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Can be substituted with margarine.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For added flavor.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it is spooned and leveled.
  • 0.5 cup salted caramel sauce Use more if desired.
For the Filling
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (about 3 medium) Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Gradually add in flour and stir until the mix becomes crumbly.
  4. Press about two-thirds of this mixture into the bottom of your prepared pan.
  5. In another bowl, toss your sliced apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Assembly
  1. Spread the apple mixture over your crust.
  2. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the apples.
  3. Crumble the remaining flour mixture over the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  2. Let it cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days at room temperature or up to a week in the fridge. Can also freeze before or after baking for up to 3 months.
